Indigenous to Austria, the St. Laurent grape is quite rare in California, with only 5 acres planted in the state. Grown in granite-rich volcanic soils, this particular example of the variety exhibits an elevated acidity, which provides lift to the plump, ripe plum and cherry flavors and hint of earthy spice. This is the perfect wine for those who like light- to medium-bodied reds with moderate tannins, and would make an excellent foil for feathered game or pork.
